Forged Tour: Author Interview with author Becky Banks

Today I have a great tour to share with all of you.  Forged by Becky Banks is an amazing book and today I have a great author interview with this fabulous author.  Thank you so much, Becky, for sharing this wonderful interview and your amazing book with us.

Can you tell us something interesting about your writing process?

I write naked, outside. The wind across my bare skin is an infinite fountain of creative energy that inspires my work.

Just kidding. I live in the soggy Northwest, if I wrote outside I’d be electrocuted, not to mention being naked in 40 degree weather is torture, not inspiration. Though, my neighbors might find inspiration in it! Really though, I’m just your average writer. I do write with music and I write by the seat of my pants. That is, I write as the story unfolds in my mind. That does have its drawbacks though, as I’ve been known to rewrite an entire novel multiple times until it comes out right. Which, can be a pain in the ass!

Where did the idea for your book come from?

Forged was inspired from all the stories my girlfriends have shared with me over the years. It seems inevitable that three glasses of wine in on a girl’s night, the topic of first loves will emerge. I thought about it for days until Eva and Nate formed up in my mind and the novel was born.

When you were writing Forged who was the main audience you had in mind?

In short, I write for no one. Jean Auel (the legendary author of The Clan of the Cave Bears and also a Portland writer) says it best in an interview with the Oregonian, "I write for myself, I don't write for my publisher. I don't write for critics. I don't write for my fans. I know some fans would wish I would write for them, but I don't. It's my book. It's my story. It's my characters."

Describe your book in a tweet (140 characters or less).

First loves, dark pasts, and fast cars all collide in this high-octane adventure!

If you could have a casual, 30-minute conversation by the fireplace with any author, living or dead, who would you choose, and what would you ask?

It would probably have to be Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love her books and from her interviews and Facebook postings I think she has a fantastic sense of humor, which would make for an entertaining fireside chat!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in your life?  And what is the best piece of advice you have gotten as an author?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received was from my father. He once told me, “You can have anything you want in this life. If you try hard enough, you can have it. It’s all about what you’re willing to give up to get it.”

As an author the most innocuous advice I was given turned out to be my golden rule. Professionally edit your manuscript and if you can afford it, do it twice. I do it three times.

Thank you Ali for having me today – you all have been wonderful! *waves*

Author Info:

Becky Banks grew up, like the generations of Bankses before her, in the Hawaiian Islands. With the Islands as her roots, Becky was raised within the time-honored tradition of “talking story” amid a backdrop of grassy fields, blue waters, and cloud-clad mountains. She moved to the mainland after high school to attend Oregon State University, where she studied forestry, natural resources, and science education. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband Keith. Becky’s first novel, The Legend of Lady MacLaoch, received Night Owl Reviews’ Top Pick Award and achieved #8 on the Amazon Bestsellers list for Historical Romance.

Book Information:

First loves, dark pasts, and fast cars collide in this high-octane adventure. Eva Lynn Rodgers, the daughter of a mechanic, grew up with a need for speed. So did her best friend, and later boyfriend, Nathaniel Vellanova. But when Eva left the drizzling rain of Portland, Oregon, for a high-powered career in New York, she left both Nathaniel and her past behind. Now Eva's back, and her BMW—like her life in general—could use a little love. Her new mechanic is the right man for the job, but he's got some scores to settle with the girl who peeled out for the East Coast when he needed her most. It's time for Eva and Nathaniel to confront their demons. Passionate and dangerous sparks ignite as Nathaniel's brutal youth rises up and pulls Eva Lynn back to him—forging a bond that, this time, won't be denied.
