Vampires, Sex, and Daggers...OH MY!

Review: Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

In A Glance: Fangtastic, spellbinding, erotic, are three words that I would use to describe Dark Lover

Title: Dark Lover
Author: J.R. Ward
Publisher: Signet, Mass Market Paperback
Format: Paperback/Audio
Pages: 393 Pages
ISBN #: 0451216954

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood. The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

Where do I even start when talking about this book or this series, I guess we start from the beginning and Dark Lover is the first book.  So, I do want to start off by saying in this series as I'm reading I can't seem to figure out who my favorite character is, with each new read it's changing.  At first I fell in love with Wrath, (This book's character) now it's changed so many times I can't keep up.

Dark Lover is one filled with drama, love, sex, and war. Mix all those ingrediants up and you got Dark Lover.  In the beginning we find out that one of the vampire's has a daughter, Beth and she is about to go through her change.  Before I got any further, this series I love the lore behind it, these vampire's aren't bitten to become a vamp, no they are born with the gene and change around the age of twenty five.  No they can't go out in the sunlight and there is another do not, but I'm going to leave that for you to figure out. So back to the story, this vampire asks his friend to watch out for his daughter and to help her with the change.  He of course says no, because well Wrath just isn't one to take care of anyone.  But after some crazy and sad things happening, Wrath ends up taking the girl in and caring for her.

I really enjoyed the plot and the pace of this story and the whole series so far.  The characters in this book and series are well thought out, with amazing and detailed back stories.  I can't get enough of this series and it's characters.

I will say one more thing, because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone.  The author, J.R. Ward has a way of pulling you into these books and the power she wields with her words doesn't let you go the entire time.  Oh and the feels in these books are extraordinary, bring a box of tissues and get ready to cry one minute and laugh another.  Especially if you are one that connects with characters as you read books, you will be on the edge of your seat at times.

With all of that being said, if you haven't read Dark Lover or any books in this series, pick them up today and read! You wont be disappointed.

I have to give this book the rating below, its way to fantastic not to give it this rating.

Plot: 20/20
Writing: 20/20
Creativity: 20/20
Characters: 20/20
Ending: 10/10
Cover: 10/10
