Layton Morris and his brother Mike grew up not knowing what it would be like to live in a normal home. With no running water or electricity in their home, no parents around to protect them, they quickly learned how to survive and depend only on each other. When a tragic accident takes Mike away from Layton, and the only other person that he ever let into his heart walked away from him, leaving his heart shattered, Layton focuses all of his time and energy into the ranch he and his brother dreamed of. He makes a vow to himself to never let love in again. The last thing Layton needed or wanted was more heartache. Whitley Reynolds grew up in a privileged home in upstate New York. When she landed the star football player in high school no one was surprised, not even Whitley. She dreamed of a life with Roger living in New York City and happily followed him there. The first time Roger hit her for arguing with him about a dinner party, she forgave him. The more it happened, the further Whitley withdrew from her friends and family. One fateful day things go to far. Whitley makes a promise to herself and finds the courage to do the one thing she thought she'd never be able to do. Fleeing with her best friend Courtney, Whitley was determined to put her past behind her and start a new life in the small town of Llano, Texas, where no one would ever find out about her past. Will they both ever learn to trust and love again, or will their pasts come back to haunt them, keeping them both alone and... Broken.

Can we all say HOT SEXY COWBOY? Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about everything else about this book that made me love it! Broken is a contemporary romance that I could read over and over again, but thankfully there are more stories/books in this series and we get more of these characters.

I came across Broken by Kelly Elliott on Goodreads, saw that a friend on there had read it and loved it, so I figured I would pick it up and see what I thought.  Honestly, once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down.  Yes I know people say that all the time, but this is the truth.  I cooked with my Kindle in my hand while reading this one.  (No Kindle was harmed while reading this fantastic book!)

Alright I have to say this again, SEXY COWBOYS! The men in this series are sweet and sassy all at the same time and I couldn't get enough of them.  At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like Layton, but after a bit I loved his character and couldn't wait to see if him and Whitley would finally get together.  There is a far share of drama in this book as well, which I loved.  The twists are ones that aren't over done and I for one was very grateful for that.

I will have to say that my favorite character isn't the main character at all, I love her best friend Courtney and I'm happy that she has her own book in the second of the series, but more on that one soon.  Courtney is the funny side kick and the friend that every girl needs on her side. Broken is about finding that second chance at love and actually taking the chance on it.  The author, Kelly Elliott has a way with words that are easy to read but build up the story perfectly.  I also must say that I love Whitley's career seeing as I went to school to be an event planner.

I don't want to give anything away, but seeing as the summary does tell you about Roger hitting Whitley, I can say this part without giving too much away.  Just know that I seriously yelled at my Kindle and was screaming for Layton to kick his ass.  Just saying!

All in all, Broken by Kelly Elliott is a fantastic book that I would recommend to all of my romance reading friends.
