Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away.

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

I loved this book once I got into it,  took me a bit to do that though.  It took me till about chapter seven to fully get into this book.  But after chapter seven I couldn't put it down.  Stephenie Meyer fills the first chapters with a lot of information, but really its information you need to understand the rest of the book.  This fantasy love story is filled with adventure, lots of back story, and amazing characters that you fall in love with.

Uncle Jeb is one of my faves.  Hes funny and witty, I couldn't help but fall in love with him.  The Wanda/Melanie contrast and the way they both struggle to make their way through the events is sorta like yin and yang.  They go together but they are both so different.  I love the way they fit together.  Even though they fight and bicker they sorta are like sisters.  The contrast of both characters works well together.  Stephenie Meyer did give us some amazing male characters in this one as well.  (like she always does *wink*)
Ian, Kyle, Jared, and Jamie...awww I love little Jamie. I love all four of them, but Ian is my favorite of the four.  Ian sees the real Wanda in spite of her co-living situation with Mel.

When you read this book you will see why, I loved it so much.  Its very different than what we are used to from Stephenie Meyer.  There is no vampires in this one, no its filled with creatures that take over our brains.  You would think you would hate the creatures right...nope not in this one, Stephenie Meyer makes you fall for them and cheer them on.  So much that you cry your eyes out when something happens to them. Cry, I did too at the end of this book I bawled my eyes out and couldn't stop crying.

Pick up this book and read it if you haven't already.  Trust me YOU will love it as much as I did.

Oh, no. I can be a cry baby sometimes, but I still hope to read this one. I enjoyed Stephenie Meyer's storytelling in Twilight.

This is not as lush a story as "Twilight". That is not to say that it is not good. kind of like a Mercedes vs. a Porsche.

I just finished this book as well and I loved it. I felt the same as you in your review, slow to get into but awesome overall. I really enjoyed the ending.

I LOVED this book! More so than Twilight. You really can't compare them though since they are so extremely different.
I agree that the beginning is a little hard to get into but it's necessary to the story and once we get past that it's AMAZING!
