Teaser Tuesday #189

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  •  Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser.

Nine windows, two doors, a wrap-around porch, and two balconies--that was just the face of our looming two-story Victorian on Juniper Street. The chipped blue paint and the dusty windows seemed to sing a violent song about the century of relentless summers and brutally cold winters that house had endured.

Alright, have any of you read this one? It's one that another friend of mine told me about and I'm not too sure about it so far.  I'm hoping I love it, but we shall see. I usually like author Jamie McGuire's books though so I'm pretty sure I will love it. Anyway, let me know your thoughts below but as usual, please no spoilers.

In the uncomfortable plastic seat next to me, my mother, Joyce, saw me checking the time. She kept her voice low as she reached for my arm. "Happy birthday, Evie." "Don't," I grumbled and pulled my arm out of her reach.

This is a book that a friend of mine told me about and said I really needed to read, so of course, I picked it up and figured I would give it a try. Have you read this one? Let me know your thoughts please in the comments below, but please no spoilers!

Catcalling me was a mistake that most of the customers and mechanics at Big Jim's Garage only made once. Unfortunately, the owner of this particular Dodge Ram was the type of person who put his paycheck into couping up a Dodge Ram. That--and the urinating stick figure on his back window--was pretty much the only forewarning I needed about the way this was about to o down.

So let's chat about this one, I've had this one on my TBR for a while now. Mainly because I loved her other book The Lovely and the Lost. You can check my review out for that book by clicking here. I know that the above teaser is more than two lines, but I just couldn't pick which two I wanted lol. Anyway, what are your thoughts? Have you read this one?

And for a girl that'll live for eternity? That's scary shit. With bated breath, I prepare myself. You never know what fate awaits a monster like me.

So have you read this one? I just started it and I'm loving it so far. I'll let you know my full thoughts in my upcoming review.

New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. I remember the moment I first heard someone say this. The old man meant to frighten me. He said there was a time when coffins sprang from the ground following a heavy rain, the dead flooding the city streets.

I've been dying to get my hands on this book since I first heard of it last year. I've heard some mixed things about it, but come on I've needed a new vampire book for a while and I can't wait to read this one.

I wasn't sure how it had happened. But Jesse Foster was kissing me. I was kissing him back, opening my eyes every few seconds to verify it was really, actually happening, to see the twinkle lights and garlands strung up around the basement, the Santa hat listing on the banister post, and sure enough, Jesse Foster above me, his hands in my hair, his brown eyes closed.

Picked this one up from the library, it's one that's been on my want to read list for a while now. I think it's the cover that really drew me in when I picked it up. Totally loving it. Though the first couple of lines of the book itself are fantastic as well.  Have you ever had a book that does that just within the first line or so? I love it when a book can do that. Can't wait to see where this one goes.

Night fell as death rode into the Great Library of Summershall. It arrived within a carriage. Elisabeth stood in the courtyard and watched the horses thunder wild-eyed through the gates, throwing froth from their mouths.

So I've heard mixed reviews about this book, but figured I would give it a shot anyway. I'm in love with the cover though. Seriously look how beautiful it is. We shall see what I think about the writing and all that jazz soon.

The man was repugnant. Sclerosis skin, a shallow chin lost in folds of stubbled fat. A sheen of spittle at his mouth, whiskey's kiss scrawled across cheeks and nose and his eyes, O, Daughters, his eyes. Blue as the sunburned sky. Glittering like stars in the still of truedark.

Okay so I totally gave you more than 2 sentences, but I couldn't break off the beautifulness of the sentences above. I hope you agree with me on that one.  Anyway, leave me a comment below if you've read this one? I'm so entranced by this one!

A dead Prince lay in their cart like any other sinner, not an arm's length away. Fie could scarce believe it. A Prince. A Phoenix.

So I heard a Youtuber talking about this book a few days ago and I knew I had to get my hands on it. I love the writing style so far. A review will be coming soon!

Have you read this one yet?

I've already won. What purpose would striking a killing blow serve?  "Victory is mine. No need for death today," he grandly announced, pulling back the point of his sword.

This one has been on my TBR list for a while now, thought I would give it a go. Have you read this one? What were your thoughts? No spoilers, please!

Once, a Whimsical poet died of despair after finding himself unequal to the task of capturing a fair one's beauty in simile. I think it more likely he died of arsenic poisoning, but so the story goes.

I've heard so many great things about this book, I had to pick it up and start reading it. Got to say I'm enjoying it so far! I do love the cover.

There are times when magic really sucks. Sure, it's awesome when you're using it to change your hair color, or fly, or turn day into night. But for the most part, magic tends to end in explosions, or tears, or with you flat on your back in the middle of nowhere, feeling like a tiny dwarf is mining for diamonds inside your head.

I am loving this series so much, I honestly should have read it a long time ago and I'm not sure why I didn't. Glad to be reading it now though, so much love for these books!

At a normal high school, having class outside on a gorgeous May day is usually pretty awesome. It means sitting in the sunshine, maybe reading some poetry, letting the breeze blow through your hair...  At Hecate Hall, a.k.a. Juvie for Monsters, it meant I was getting thrown in the pond.

So I finished Hex Hall last week, review coming soon, and well it left on such a cliff hanger that I had to start Demon Glass right away. So, what do you think about the teaser this week? I think it's a great way to kick off this book and that's exactly what it did.
