Arcadia Falls Promo

Hey everyone, lets take a look at this new book.  I am very excited about this one!!

A war is brewing between the hunters and the vampires and Chloe is determined to strike against the vampires before they have a chance to attack the hunter community. While Chloe tries to convince the hunter community, and most especially tries to convince Drew, that they should move against the vampires first instead of waiting for an attack, the group of new friends—Oscar, Alice, Drew, Chloe and Christina—are distracted by news reports of a vigilante who is saving innocent humans against what can only be vampire attacks. Fearing this vigilante will cause unwanted attention that will expose the vampire-hunter community with each person he rescues, the group attempts to discover who this mysterious potential vampire hunter is. When they catch up with him, the group learns a shocking revelation that might just change everything for everyone in Arcadia Falls, but will have the most profound impact on Chloe herself. The Arcadia Falls Chronicles is the continuation of The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter. Following the format of The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter, The Arcadia Falls Chronicles is serialized into several novella-length stories.

Orphan Jack Templar has no memory of his parents and only the smallest details from his Aunt Sophie about how they died. The day before Jack's fourteenth birthday, things start to change for him. At first it's great: A sudden new strength helps him defend his nose-picking friend "T-Rex" from the school bully, and even his crush, Cindy Adams, takes notice. But then a mysterious girl named Eva arrives and tells him two facts that will change his life forever. First, that he's the descendent of a long line of monster hunters and he's destined to be in the family business. Second, that there's a truce between man and monster that children are off-limits...until their fourteenth birthday! Jack has only one day before hundreds of monsters will descend on his little town of Sunnyvale and try to kill him. As if that weren't enough, things get even more complicated when Jack discovers that the Lord of the Creach (as the monsters are collectively known) holds a personal grudge against him and will do anything to see that Jack has a slow and painful death. To stay alive and save his friends, Jack will have to battle werewolves, vampires, harpies, trolls, zombies and more. But perhaps the most dangerous thing he must face is the truth about his past. Why do the other hunters call him the last Templar? Why do they whisper that he may be the "One?" Why do the monsters want him dead so badly? Even as these questions plague him, he quickly discovers survival is his new full-time job and that in the world of monster hunters, nothing is really what it seems

It's Monday...What Are You Doing?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Journey!

Alright so its Monday...Again! But the fun part of my Monday's is this post.  I get to share with all of you what I'm reading this week.  So let's get started!

I know I'm posting this a bit late, but I had a crazy busy day.  But anyway here it is and its still Monday right? lol

This week I Plan on Reading:

Audio book:

Based on "The Walking Dead" graphic novels/comic books and the series starring Andrew Lincoln ("Teachers", "This Life and Love", and "Love Actually") and written/produced by Frank Darabont whose previous credits include "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile", this is a new trilogy of books written by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga, author of "Perfect Victim" and "Shattered". Set in the world created by Robert Kirkman, this standalone trilogy is fast-paced, action-packed storytelling about the lengths some men will go to survive. With new characters, new storylines and with the same in-depth character-based plotting that has made the television series such an immediate hit, this trilogy of novels is sure to be a hit with those who love zombies and those who have loved the TV series and comic books.

In the Walking Dead universe, there is no greater villain than The Governor. The despot who runs the walled-off town of Woodbury, he has his own sick sense of justice: whether it’s forcing prisoners to battle zombies in an arena for the townspeople’s amusement, or chopping off the appendages of those who cross him. The Governor was voted “Villain of the Year” by Wizard magazine the year he debuted, and his story arc was the most controversial in the history of the Walking Dead comic book series. Now, for the first time, fans of The Walking Dead will discover how The Governor became the man he is, and what drove him to such extremes.

Author Feature: How Do I Do What I Do?

How Do I Do What I Do? Is a new author feature here on Ali's Bookshelf.  It's mainly a great way for authors to showcase writing topics.  So today I have a great post on the Ritual of Writing by author Alexandra Christian.  So sit back and enjoy! Oh and don't forget to leave some love for this great author and let her know what you think of this post.

The Ritual of Writing
By Alexandra Christian

It’s a historical fact that humans love rituals. Think about it-- we do them every day as we are all creatures of habit. Don't ask us to deviate from our routine. We freak out like Rain Man in a Wal-Mart. What all of us want is to go to the same places, eat the same things with the same people day after day, ad nauseum. Unfortunately, there isn't as much of that as we'd like, so we create these rituals for ourselves to follow: putting on both socks, then moving on to shoes; sitting in the same pew in church every Sunday; making a hot dog with the mustard and onions on bottom, then the wiener, then the chilli. We all do it because we're all freaks and there's not much we can do about it except just conform to the ritual and get it over with.

The Mongoliad began as a social media experiment, combining serial story-telling with a unique level of interaction between authors and audience during the creative process. Since its original iteration, The Mongoliad has been restructured, edited, and rewritten under the supervision of its authors to create a more cohesive reading experience and will be published as a trilogy of novels. This edition is the definitive edition and is the authors' preferred text. This riveting second installment in Stephenson and company’s epic tale focuses on the aftermath of the world-shattering Mongolian invasion of 1241 and the difficult paths undertaken by its most resilient survivors. The Shield Brethren, an order of warrior monks, search for a way to overthrow the horde, even as the invaders take its members hostage. Forced to fight in the Mongols’ Circus of Swords, Hakkon must prove his mettle or lose his life in the ring. His bravery may impress the enemy, but freedom remains a distant dream. Father Rodrigo receives a prophecy from God and believes it’s his mission to deliver the message to Rome. Though a peaceful man, he resigns himself to take up arms in the name of his Lord. Joining his fight to save Christendom are the hunter Ferenc, orphan Ocyrhoe, healer Raphael, and alchemist Yasper, each searching for his place in history. Deftly blending fact and fantasy, The Mongoliad: Book Two captures the indomitable will to survive against immense odds.

Author Feature: Day In The Life of Joanne Kershaw

Alright, I have another great Author feature post for you.  Today I have Author Joanne Kershaw sharing what her day is like.  Enjoy!!!

My name is Joanne Kershaw and I’m addicted to my crazy life.
I am a full time mother of four children (aged 10, 8, 5 and 3), a full time teacher and a soon-to-be published author with Xchyler Publishing. ‘How do you do all that?’ I hear you ask. This is how:

Monday morning.

6:30am           Alarm goes off. Dreadful tinny music on a badly tuned radio. Hit snooze.
6:40am           Alarm goes off. Music is now an advert for double glazing. Hit snooze.
6:50am           Alarm goes off again. This time Only Son—aged five—who has crawled into bed with me, offers to turn it off for me. So this time, he hits snooze.
7:04am           Daughter Number One, aged ten, sticks her head round the bedroom door and says, rather pointedly, “We’re all going to be late, don’t you think you should get up?” I send Only Son to get dressed. I allow myself a few more minutes.

Book Information

Vermont, picturesque and lovely, attracts visitors from across the country in search for the perfect picture, the perfect fall foliage or perhaps a taste of maple syrup. Stansbury is best known for the odd covered bridge that spans Stansbury Lake and goes nowhere, connecting no roads and serving no known purpose. The locals call it the Lakebridge. Very few know of its mysterious origins and fewer care to know more. Those visiting the town perhaps take a few snapshots and leave, their curiosity quelled by an uneasy feeling that they shouldn’t think on it anymore.

The tourists will eventually leave Stansbury, but its residents strangely linger, seemingly held captive by a force they barely recognize. They also do not think about the town’s mysterious artifact much except in passing, all but Gil, his father, Ben, and a few others. They know of the bridge’s dark history and understand that it is responsible for every horror that ever befell the people of Stansbury: the people who fear the bridge but will not speak of it. The bridge makes people do things – bad things – so that it can continue to love and care for them all.

Some have tried to destroy the bridge, but as long as the bridge is fed with the lives of the innocents of Stansbury it will go on – loving the people of Stansbury.

Lakebridge: Spring is the first of a four book cycle revolving around Stansbury and the Lakebridge.

Mini Me Corner: Review Clarice Bean, Don't Look Now by Lauren Child

Alright, so you all know by now what Mini Me Corner reviews are, they are a review of a children's book.  Today I have a great chapter book to review.

I do these reviews a bit different then my normal reviews, my little girl reads and reviews these with me.  So today we have Clarice Bean, Don't Look Now by Lauren Child.

Always remember: It's the worry you have not even thought to worry about that should worry you the most. Clarice Bean has a list of worries, such as Worry No.19: Robert Granger-will he ever leave her alone? Or Worry No. 9: largish spiders. But lately, Worry No. 3: change, and how it sometimes comes along when you least expect it.

After leaving the wrong man, Leah Griffin's not ready to look for the right one. All she wants is to survive the conference she's planning and spend some time with her best friend Kate Edwards. She was not expecting the conference services manager to be so tall, dark, and handsome—or so eager to please. It's Brandon Long's job to make Leah happy, but after a scorching interlude in her hotel room, neither can deny business has become pleasure. Smart, driven, and successful attorney Kate Edwards has spent her life making the right choices. But in contrast to those right choices, she's involved in a long distance, secret love affair with a coworker. Charles Dixon is a bad choice she can't help but make—over and over. A conference and a promotion bring Kate back to Pennsylvania, and suddenly, Dix wants far more than a few nights in random hotel rooms. From Book to Movie: The Hobbit

So this is a feature here on Ali's Bookshelf were I discuss a book that has been turned into a movie and which one I liked more.  You would be surprised sometimes I love the movie more than the book...but don't tell anyone that lol.

So today we are going to be talking about The Hobbit!

So the other day I got the chance to see the new movie The Hobbit and I must say I was disappointed.  I loved the book so much but the movie didn't even come close for me.  I didn't like that they have split it up and made it more than one movie.  It was one book and it seemed like they had dragged out the movie just so they could make it more than one movie.

I also didn't like the way they ended it.  It seemed way to cheesy for a book and author of this caliber.  They should have done better than that! It felt to copy-cattish to me.  (IF that is even a word lol)

I liked the way it started out though, we got to see the beginning of The Lord of the Rings and  I really liked how they tied it in.  But like I said it just didn't hit it home for me.

So I would defiantly have to say the Book one this round for me.  I really hope they do better on the next movie, because I will go see it.
