Teaser Tuesday #127

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser

People who knew Chester and Serena Wolcott socially would have placed money on the idea that the couple would never choose to have children. They were not the parenting kind, by any reasonable estimation. Chester enjoyed silence and solitude when he was working in his home office, and viewed the slightest deviation from routine as an enormaous, unforgiveable disruption.

I'm loving this whole series so far! I can't wait for more books after this one and the next. Yep I already have the third lol. Will be posting reviews for all three once I finish them.

Review: Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Today I'm excited to share my thoughts on this fantastic book and I can't wait to hear your thoughts as well. So let's get to it!

Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Publisher: Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers
Published:  November 22nd 2016
Format: Audiobook
Pages: 435 pages
Date Read: Feb 1 2018 - Feb 8 2018
Series: Arc of a Scythe #1
Challenges: 2018 Bookish Resolutions Challenge
ISBN#:  1442472421

 Thou shalt kill.

A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this book, but honestly I wish I hadn't. I had heard so many great things about Scythe and by the time Thunderhead, the next book in the series was released, I knew I had to pick this one up and read it. The best part is I wasn't disappointed and when I say I couldn't put this one down I mean it. I listened to it every day in my car on the way to work and once I arrived at work, I didn't want to stop, sadly I had to, but as soon as I was back in my car I started listening to it as fast as I could.

Scythe is a very different and interesting take on futuristic and dystopian death. Mainly the two main characters, Citra and Rowan are picked to become what they call Scythe's. The Scythe's decide who is going to die and in the time of the book it's the only way to die. There is no sickness or even if you jump off of a building and splat to the ground you still recover. At first neither of the two main characters want to be Scythe's but so many twists and turns happen in this book that by the end you are cheering them both on.  As well as the other characters in the book, I actually caught myself screaming in my car when a few things happened and there were so many feels with this story that I didn't see coming.

I know I've said this a few times in other reviews, but I love a book that I don't see the ending coming and this was defiantly one of those books. I didn't guess half the stuff that happened in this book and I can't wait to read the next one. (Actually I already started listening to it today!) The characters in this story are easy to connect with and their stories and paths that lay before them for them to choose just makes you want to dive further into their story. The author has a way to just pulling you in and not letting you go. Even after the last word is read of the book. I need more books like this!

If you haven't read Scythe yet, I highly recommend you pick up a copy right away. It's become one of my favorite books I've read so far this year.  Honestly, I can't say enough great things about this book, you'll just have to pick it up and see for yourself.

I'm pretty sure you've already seen my rating above, but just in case!

I would also give the audiobook version the same rating!

Award-winning author Neal Shusterman grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he began writing at an early age. After spending his junior and senior years of high school at the American School of Mexico City, Neal went on to UC Irvine, where he made his mark on the UCI swim team, and wrote a successful humor column. Within a year of graduating, he had his first book deal, and was hired to write a movie script.

In the years since, Neal has made his mark as a successful novelist, screenwriter, and television writer. As a full-time writer, he claims to be his own hardest task-master, always at work creating new stories to tell. His books have received many awards from organizations such as the International Reading Association, and the American Library Association, as well as garnering a myriad of state and local awards across the country. Much of his fiction is traceable back to stories he tells to large audiences of children and teenagers -- such as his novel The Eyes of Kid Midas. As a speaker, Neal is in constant demand at schools and conferences. Degrees in both psychology and drama give Neal a unique approach to writing. Neal's novels always deal with topics that appeal to adults as well as teens, weaving true-to-life characters into sensitive and riveting issues, and binding it all together with a unique and entertaining sense of humor.

What Ali's Been Watching Lately

I've been wanting to do a post like this for some time now and I'm excited to finally get the chance. I've seen several posts like this in book blogging community and to just name a few that I've seen one being Christina over at Girl in the Pages. I've also seen a few Booktubers do a feature like this as well. I'm not sure who created the feature first, but I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here and share what I've been watching lately!

So since The Walking Dead is finally back on you know I'm watching that and I'm still in the process of watching The Queen season 2, but I've started to re-watch something else and I'm loving it. I have once again fallen for Reign!

I forgot how much I actually enjoyed this show and honestly don't remember why I stopped watching. I honestly think it was mainly because of time. If you don't know anything about this show it's about Mary Queen of Scots. Now the history of this show isn't always right nore is the cloths for the time period, but I still adore it.

Now as far as movies go, I have watched a few great ones lately, but the main one that has stuck with me is this beautiful story about a boy...

This story is just amazing and it made me have so many feels. My son, who is ten and autistic loves this movie and got to go see it with his school.Which I think in this day and age this is the perfect movie for kids to see.  If you haven't seen this one yet, you really need to get to it right away. Make sure you have tissues though. The cast in this one is perfection as well. I can't say enough about this whole movie.

So that's what I've been watching lately, how about you? I would love to hear from you or if you have any recommendations on what I should watch next on Netflix let me know in the comments below!

Book Blogger Hop #31

Book Blogger Hop is another post I'm going to be trying out and this one has a topic each week, which is something I've been trying to bring to the blog.  I'm really excited about this one because I have a hard time coming up with something fresh to talk about and I'm hoping this helps.

If you would be interested in doing your own post, please CLICK HERE to learn more about this great hop!

So last week I messed up and posted the wrong question. I know crazy me, but anyway, so this week I'm going to be answering two questions! YAY.

23rd - March 1st -  Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off? Why or why not?  (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

My answer is pretty simple with this I read mostly hardcovers and I will not read mine with the dust jacket on. I always take them off mainly because I'm so particular about my books and I don't want to mess the dust jackets up. They are always so pretty and I'm afraid I'm going to rip them while reading on accident or get something on them. So therefore I always take them off!

2nd - 8th -  Off the book topic...do you use a mouse pad? If so, what is on it? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

I kind of like the off book topic questions mainly becuase it gives us all a chance to know a bit more about each other. Yes I use a mouse pad and it actually has my business logo on it. It's jewelry with my name on it! Very pretty. I just bought my daughter a new mousepad as well, because she needed a new one really bad and it has a fox drinking hot chocolate on it. It's so cute. Now I need to get one for my son but not sure what to get him yet.

Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge Day 1!

Today is the day, it's the first day of the Take Control of Your TBR Pile challenge and I'm super excited for this one. If you would like to see my sign up post for this challenge you can CLICK HERE! Though I still haven't picked my TBR, mainly because I am a mood reader and have decided not to post TBR posts. I do know that I have two books that I have/want to read, so I'm going to go ahead and show those.

These two books are...

Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire is one that I started a few weeks back, but haven't gotten a chance to pick back up and I would love to finish it. It will more than likely be my first read for this challenge. Mainly because it's not very long, I think it's around 180 pages long so it won't take me too long.  I'm loving this whole series. Hello Stranger is a TBR book for a tour that I'm participating in March, so I really need to get that one read soon.

Other than those two I'm not really sure what I'll be reading.

My Goals for this challenge though is to read 3 Netgalley ARC's, 2 of my physical books off my TBR and hopefully 1 audiobook!  I'm hoping to get through all of these! We shall see.  I do plan on doing a few more posts like this one showing you what I'm reading throughout the month as well, so you can follow me throughout this challenge right here on the blog.

Wish me luck!!!

Are you joining in this challenge? If so what are your goals?
