He left home to escape. She made a new life out of guilt. Neither one expected to find love—but not even the Arctic can cool this steamy romance. Maya knows she’s doing the right thing by moving to Alaska with her parents, but that doesn’t mean she has to be happy about it. Forced to give up a scholarship to a prestigious art school, she relocates to a Podunk town with one college the size of her high school cafeteria, all to help hold her family together after the death of her little sister. But a fresh start can only do so much. Jake doesn’t like handouts and he certainly doesn’t need any distractions. Working on a salmon boat in Kodiak, Alaska is the only way to pay for his mother’s surgery back in the lower forty-eight. Juggling college courses and constant worry about his mother’s health, Jake couldn’t imagine anything else fitting into his life. That is, until he meets Maya, the sexy Californian artist who tints his world in technicolor. But when Maya’s family starts to crumble and Jake’s mom takes a turn for the worse, will they drag each other down, or can they find what they were missing all along? In this new adult romance, Theresa DaLayne paints a swoon-worthy story about life under the midnight sun, following your heart, and learning to live on the edge.

I was asked to review this for this blog tour through Xpresso Reads, luckily I had just requested this book from Netgalley and was excited to read it.  So I decided to be part of the tour.  I want to talk about a few things that I really loved about this book.  For one I needed a sweet romance to read, lately I've been reading a lot of dystopian and The Edge of You by Theresa DaLayne was the perfect choice for me.  I loved this authors writing style and the way she described Alaska in just the right amount of descriptions and words, not to much information, just the right amount, brought me right into the story and kept me reading.

The next thing would have to be the characters, I'm a reader that loves the underdog type of story and in this book both of these people are the underdog, the ones that are always getting kicked when they are down. The Edge of You is a book that made me root for this couple to get together, fall in love and be together.  It is a sweet romance with curveballs, but what love story doesn't have curveballs right?

The setting, I really want to talk about this one a bit, this book is set in Alaska.  Which isn't a setting that I see often and it was a great refreshing read because of this.  Again with the setting this fantastic author knew exactly how to explain the details of the places around each character.  Also, I want to mention the great cover on this book.  It is the main reason I even stopped to look at this book on Netgalley, the cover caught my attention and I know it would for any reader in a store.  The colors are perfection and so are the fonts.

All in all, The Edge of You is a refreshing and fantastic read if you are looking for a romance with curve balls.  I highly recommend it to anyone who loves the underdog and romance.

So with all of that being said, I'm giving The Edge of You by Theresa DaLayne an Ali's Bookshelf...
