Alex Kosmitoras’s life has never been easy. The only other student who will talk to him is the school bully, his parents are dead-broke and insanely overprotective, and to complicate matters even more, he's blind. Just when he thinks he'll never have a shot at a normal life, a new girl from India moves into town. Simmi is smart, nice, and actually wants to be friends with Alex. Plus she smells like an Almond Joy bar. Yes, sophomore year might not be so bad after all. Unfortunately, Alex is in store for another new arrival—an unexpected and often embarrassing ability to “see” the future. Try as he may, Alex is unable to ignore his visions, especially when they begin to suggest that Simmi is in danger. With the help of the mysterious psychic next door and new friends who come bearing gifts of their own, Alex must embark on a journey to change his future

I want everyone that is reading this, just for a second, to pretend with me.  Think about how you would feel if you were blind and all of the sudden you were seeing visions of things that were going to happen.  Think about what you would do if you saw your best friend being murdered.  How or what would you do?  That is what Alex had to go through in this great book called Farsighted.
First off, lets chat about the characters in this book.  I love so many of them for so many different reasons.  Lets take a look at each of them...

The Characters

Alex ~ Alex is the main character in this great story.  He's stronger than he thinks he is and I always love that about main characters.  Alex is blind and for years he has tried not to let that hamper him but sometimes it just can't be helped.  The world is cruel sometimes just like teenagers can be very cruel to Alex in this book.  (one in particular.) In the beginning of this story Alex doesn't have any friends until one day he ends up making a friend in Simmi, a new girl in school and in his class. I love the way Alex 'see's' his new friend, but the way she smells.  He also makes another friend in Shapri another new girl.  Alex struggles a lot with so many different things in this book; falls for a girl for the first time, new friendships, fights with his dad, see's "Simmi" in trouble and thinks she might die, So many things happen to him in a short amount of time.  I love his character mainly because he's got the biggest heart! He tries really hard to do what he thinks is right.  He even tries really hard to take care of his mom when everything gets really bad.

Simmi ~ Simmi is Alex's best friend and the one he really loves.  Simmi also has a extra ability.  One that I would love to have sometimes when Im dealing with angry kids or people.  She can manipulate emotions.  Make someone feel calm when they are really angry or happy when they are really sad.  To be able to do that would be amazing.  The thing I love about Simmi the most is that she is so calm through all the crazy stuff in the book.  I only wish I could always stay calm, when I need to be.

Shapri ~ Shapri is Mrs.  Teaks daughter and she too had an extra ability.  But, she tries very hard to ignore it or more like act like its not even there.  She says she doesn't have one and that anyone that thinks they do have an extra ability is crazy.  Everyone can see her ability to talk to dead people clear as day but she fights so hard to ignore it, that's actually something I like about her.  She fights so hard against it all but in her heart she knows she has the power.   I love how strong willed she is also and how she doesn't give a crap what people think of her.

Mrs. Teak ~ She is Shapri's mom and owns a physic shop .  I like how blunt she is in this story, but what appears to be isn't always what is actually happening!

Alex's Dad ~ He is very misunderstood in this book.  I know I hated him in the beginning but towards the end I really liked him.  I dont want to give anything away about him so im not going to say much about him.

Dex ~ Dex is the bad guy throughout the book.  Well, that's what is showed through Alex's eyes eyes.  You will have to read the book to see what you think of Dex. I know things in life aren't as they seem and Dex and Alex both find that out the hard way in this story.

I was so excited to get to read Farsighted and loved this great book.  I loved the characters and the traits they all had that made them just the way they were.  Each of Emlyn Chands characters in Farsighted were very well developed and very well written.  I love all the strong personalities of all of them in this story.

Now for the plot...I loved that Alex is blind and ends up with a second sight ability that's a great part of the story.  I love the friendships he builds and I love the bad guy part of the book.  All in all it's a great plot.

My favorite part of this whole book would have to be the stones and insight to the chapters before each chapter starts.  I loved reading those little lines and still having no clue what was going to happen till after I read the chapter then I was like, now that makes sense lol.  All in all this is a great book and I enjoyed reading every word of it! I can't wait to see what Emlyn Chand comes up with if she writes another book.  I can't wait to be emered again into another of her books, which I hope she is planning on writing more.

Thank you again, Emlyn Chand for letting me part of your tour and getting to read this great book!

Wow, Ali! Thank you so much. I'm thrilled to see that Farsighted gets 4 1/2 puppies :-P

I'm also happy you liked the characters. That was what was most important to me: to have characters that can shine through the crazy plot. Sounds like you wouldn't mind having an extra ability of your own ;-)

Book 2 in the series, Open Heart, will be coming out the middle of next year. I'll let you know when it's ready, so you can receive an ARC (if you'd like to).

One more favor to ask. I hope you don't mind! If you find yourself on GoodReads or Amazon in the near future, would you please cross-post this lovely review to help up exposure for Farsighted?

Many, many thanks!
Emlyn :-D
