Wicked…Broadway Across America

On November 19th, I got the pleasure of sitting in the Aronoff center in Cincinnati and watched the performance of the Broadway play Wicked.  This was a dream come true for me, I had always wanted to see this play live.  I’ve always loved the story of the Wizard of Oz and loved the back story Wicked creates for the Two main witches in the Wizard of Oz.

(me by the Wicked Poster lol)

This two act play I got to see was a marvelous performance mixed with music and it took you straight to the land of Oz.  The actresses and actors were amazing, The sets where spectacular, and the music was stupendous (specially to someone that knows all the words. )

(this is what the stage looked like from my seat...I love the map and that dragon!!!)

Lets, talk about the sets first before I get into the characters…The sets for this story are so elaborate and most of them are made out of metal.   They mostly revolve around this big clock.  The emerald city was really beautiful as well and the Wizard head was amazing.  It could talk, move around, move its eyebrows and even its eyes changed colors.  I also loved this huge dragon they had on top of the stage that moved and blew smoke and its eyes also changed colors.  The Sets of this amazing play took you straight to where ever you where during the play.  They fit the scenes to a T.  I know I was sitting on the edge of my seat to see each scene take place and I knew the story and had seen all the sets before on a DVD version of the play.  (Its so much different to see it live though.)

(these are two pics of the cast lists)

Now, lets talk for a few about the characters of this story.  Glinda, (the good witch)  who was played by Megan Campanile was amazing.  She was funny, cute, and so perky fitting Glinda’s personality perfectly.  Now as for Elphaba (AKA.  The Wicked Witch) was played by Mamie Parris was so good that I would love to see her in other plays.  There was one point that I didn’t think she would be able to hit a note in the song “Defying Gravity” and she hit it perfectly and I was so amazed!  Also the Wizard (played by Mark Jacoby) and Madame Morrible (played by Liz McCartney) was both perfect for the parts they played! Now I have one more person to talk about and that is…Fiyero…he was absolutely amazing! (played by Colin Hanlon)

Now in this story, Glinda and Elphaba end up at the same school and they end up having to room together.  They don’t become friends right away though, no way, they are very two different types of people of course.  But after awhile they do become friends…but the thing that always comes between girls does in this story too, MEN!!! Fiyero is the man that Glinda loves but he doesn’t really love her, he falls for that’s right Elphaba! The Wicked witch loves him too though but doesn’t say anything.

A lot of different things happen in this amazing story, one being we get to find out why those ruby red slippers are so important to the wicked witch and its not what you think. (trust me) You also get to find out so much about the scarecrow, the tinman, and the cowardly lion.  You get to find out why they are the way they are and who actually created them all.  I loved how this play shows the exact reason why the wicked witch is so wicked…

The ending is the part I loved the most, I didn’t want it to end but it was amazing though.  In this story you get to see from where the girls are in school together all the way up to when the wicked witch is melted…yes that means you get to see how the story of Dorthy plays into the story of Wicked.  I don’t want to give the ending away just in case anyone has plans to see it, but don’t let you eyes deceive you, that’s all I’m saying.  The Wizard of Oz is only one side of the story, Wicked is the other.  Which side will you chose to love.  I love them both but now my favorite will have to be Wicked!

Trust me on this one, if you ever get the chance to see this amazing play it’s a must see.  I give Wicked a 5 puppy rating in my book! A 5 puppy rating for Absolutely Amazing!

(I know this wasn't a review for a book, but I wanted to share my pics and something that I also enjoy with you all! Wicked was so much fun and I enjoyed every min of it! Thanks Joshua for the tickets to go and thanks Jamie for going with me. )
