Anita Hughes' Monarch Beach is an absorbing debut novel about one woman’s journey back to happiness after an affair splinters her perfect marriage and life—what it means to be loved, betrayed and to love again. When Amanda Blick, a young mother and kindhearted San Francisco heiress, finds her gorgeous French chef husband wrapped around his sous-chef, she knows she must flee her life in order to rebuild it. The opportunity falls into her lap when her (very lovable) mother suggests Amanda and her young son, Max, spend the summer with her at the St. Regis Resort in Laguna Beach. With the waves right outside her windows and nothing more to worry about than finding the next relaxing thing to do, Amanda should be having the time of her life—and escaping the drama. But instead, she finds herself faced with a kind, older divorcee who showers her with attention… and she discovers that the road to healing is never simple. This is the sometimes funny, sometimes bitter, but always moving story about the mistakes and discoveries a woman makes when her perfect world is turned upside down.
Review:
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I haven't read a adult book in a while and I was so happy that my last review book for 2012 was going to be this one. I love this author and couldn't wait to read this book.
The writing in this book is superb and the plot is fabulous. I needed something different from what I have been reading and an adult book was perfect. I knew this book wouldn't disappoint. From the first word on the very first page I was sucked into this story and not let go till I finished the very last word of this great book.
I seriously now after reading this book, I want to go to St. Regis Resort. Its nice to just get away sometimes and that is exactly what the character in this story needed to do. She ends up catching her hubby wrapped around his sous-chef, seriously if you walked in on that wouldn't you need to get away too. I know I would. I don't want to give to much away so I'm just going to say, she gets a total different type of scenery on her little get away. *snicker*
I loved reading every minute of this story and can't wait to read more books by this amazing author. If you haven't read Monarch Beach its a must read.
I would highly recommend this book to all my chick lit/romance book lover friends. Its a great book and a very easy read.
