September 2015 Bloggiesta Finish Line

I can't believe it's already over!  Why isn't there more time? Anyway, I did get a lot acomplished this time around.  Not everything I wanted to get done, but most of it.  Below is my list of accomplishments for this Bloggiesta.  Oh and I still have two more hours so I might get more done. *Snickers*

To Do List
(This was my main to do list)

  • Write and schedule 6 reviews (I finished 4 reviews and scheduled them to post.  I have the other two started in my draft box. )
  • Add new Reading challenges to my sidebar and blog
  • Update Goodreads reviews and to be read list
  • Do 4 to 5 of the mini challenges
  • Comment on other Bloggiesta participants blogs
  • Participate in at least 1 twitter chat
  • Schedule 3 weeks worth of posts
  • Update my spreadsheets (TBR, On my shelves, etc) (I started working on this but didn't finish. It's an ongoing task though.)
  • Update my year challenges
  • Add a Pinterest board for all the books I've read this year.
So yeah I didn't get it all done, but I came pretty close. I'm actually pretty proud of all that I'm accomplished this time.  There are a few more mini challenges that I want to do and a few more of the mini challenges that are from other bloggiesta's that I want to go back and do as well.  So those things I might work on this week.

I hope everyone had a great time and got a lot done.

Bloggiesta To Do List for Friday

Alright so I didn't complete everything on my list from yesterday, which means those items move over to today's list.  Hopefully, I can get everything done.  I have to work today, but not tomorrow and Sunday so that should give me plenty of time to get things completed.

  • Schedule two weeks worth of posts.
  • I also want to do something that isn't on my list and that's add a few reading challenges to my sidebar and blog.
  • Update Goodreads To Be Read List
  • Do two mini challenges (Creating post templates and Getting more out of challenges)
  • Comment on a few more participant blogs

It's a shorter list, but if I can complete these items today, I will be able to get the harder stuff finished tomorrow and Sunday.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Also don't forget about my mini challenge, How to Add Personality to your Blog and Posts.  There's also a 20$ Amazon Giveaway at the bottom of the challenge. Having personality on your blog is a very important thing! Head over to my post to see why and what you can do to add some to your blog today.

Bloggiesta! It's time to get to work.

It's the first day of Bloggiesta YAY!! I'm going to try to make a post every day about what I'm planning on doing that day and then mark it off after I complete that task.  I have a lot to get finished off my list so I'm hoping that will help me get everything finished.

So today I'm going to work on:

  • Comment on other Bloggiesta participants blogs. (Going to shot for 10 a day)
  • Schedule one weeks worth of posts.
  • Add a Pinterest board for all the books I've read and reviewed this year.   CLICK HERE TO SEE
  • I also want to do something that isn't on my list and that's add a few reading challenges to my sidebar and blog.
  • Complete one to two mini challenges.  (Clean up your email and How to Create a Back up email. )
  • Draft the 6 reviews I'm planning to write (all 6 are drafted/formated, just need to write the reviews)

So I guess I should get started, this is a hefty list for the first day.

How to Add Personality to Your Blog and Your Posts (Bloggiesta Mini Challenge)

Hey all you Bloggiesta-ers!

So when I saw a post on the Bloggiesta website, mentioning something about needing bloggers for the mini challenges, I was super excited and picked this topic right away.  Figured it fit my blog perfectly.  As you can see here on Ali's Bookshelf, my blog is full of my personality and that's what I want to share with you all today.

As most of you all know my blog isn't plain in anyway, there's a lot of color and my posts always show a bit of who I am.  It's the way I like it and honestly, I'll never change that part of my blog. I think it's important part of my blogging experience. Now, with that being said, I'm not saying everyone should be this way, but I do think in some way every blogger should show their readers a bit of who they are on their blogs in some way.  Be it in their posts, sidebars, or like me...everywhere.

Personality on your Blog

I love sharing who I am with others and mainly that's a part of why I blog, isn't that part of the reason we blog in the first place?  Sharing your personality also gives your blog a bit of character and for me a bit of color.  When I say a bit, I mean a lot!

Personality Definition:

Also, I really think adding personality to your blog is a way to make it more fun to blog and fun for our readers as well.  Yes, I know the trend these past few years is a plain white blog background and plain theme, but for me that doesn't show who you are as a blogger at all.  (Before anyone gets offended by what I'm saying here, I'm just stating my opinion!)

Now if you like your background white, then there are always other ways to show who you are on your blog. Your sidebars are a great place to showcase a bit of personality. You can add color, images, and even quotes.  Honestly, I think adding personality to your blog is part of the reason it's so much fun. Also there are always header images and graphics! I mean come on who doesn't like graphics? Another great way to show personality is through sharing your knowledge about blogging.

Like I said above, there are tons of ways to add personality to your blog and your posts.  Below is a few more ways.

So here are some tips to adding some personality to your blog and your posts.

  • Add a pop of color to your background or your sidebar (It can be your favorite colors or just a color you like)
  • Use stickers/images for your posts, adding great colors and design to them.
  •  When writing a post, use language you would use on a daily basis.
  • Also talk to your readers through your posts, talk to them like they are your best friends.
  • Start your own meme, but make your own characteristics shine through by using graphics.
  • Share a bit about yourself with your readers or about your week. I do this sometimes with my in a week review posts.

Oh and don't forget...Have some fun with this challenge! It's what blogging is meant to be in the first place.

  1.  Before you do anything take a before screenshot of your blog.
  2. Add at least two details to your blog that shows your personality. These details can be on your sidebar, background, menu, or a post.  Just make sure you add some personality to your blog.
  3. Write up a post and show us your before and after shots of your blog.  What did you change and why? Also are you going to keep adding personality to your blog in some way?

Alright so I wanted to do a giveaway for the ones that actually complete this challenge.  I also wanted to make sure the prize was a good one.  So if you complete the challenge above, you will be able to enter to win a $20 Amazon gift card.

Not sure when my post will go live, but I'll let you know as soon as I do.  There will also be a giveaway with the mini challenge.  Let's get to the main purpose of this post though and that is my main to do list for Bloggiesta.

Mini Bloggiesta 2015 Starting Line

It's Bloggiesta time!!! So I'm getting a jump on my list before I head to bed for the night, then I'll be on all day tomorrow working on my list.  I'm hoping by the end of the weekend I can get my whole list completed and maybe even add a few things to said list or work on a few older mini challenges that I haven't had a chance to complete.

I think I'm going to start at the bottom of my list and work my way up.  So that means I have to pick a book tag and post it.  That should be simple enough for tonight.   Just need to figure out which one I want to do.  YIKES there are so many that I want to do!

What are you working on during this Mini Bloggiesta? I must say I love the theme of this one, Back to the Basics is a great idea and something I think, well I at least know I need.

Mini Blogiesta To Do List!

I'm super excited that there is a small bloggiesta this upcoming weekend. I have a few things that I really want to do and I always seem to get things done with bloggiesta.  Below is the list of things I'll be working on this upcoming weekend.

  • Schedule two weeks worth of posts.  (2 weeks worth of meme's and discussion posts)
  • Clean up the slider and add new reviews to it
  • Participate in the twitter chat
  • Comment on some of the Bloggiesta participants blogs (Commented on 11 so far)
  • Create a page and link all of my meme's and special posts  (Decided not to do this, going to leave my page the way it is. It's already linked.  Might make a discussion page though.)
  • Update my Review Page (Added the 5 last reviews to the list)
  • Post a Book Tag
  • Straighten up Sidebar
  • Backup blog

There's a few other things I want to do, but going to stick to this list first.  I'm home this whole weekend so I should be able to get this list completed, hopefully.

Bloggiesta Mini Challenge #2: Using Trello

So I just completed my second mini challenger for Bloggiesta.  Really hope this helps organize everything for the blog a bit more than it already is.

I had a lot of fun with this mini challenge and want to thank the great host for the challenge.  She gave some great ideas on how to use Trello and I used them.  To read her post about Trello, head over to Pretty Sassy Cool.    Was able to organize upcoming reviews, make a list of my arcs that needed to be read and so much more using this great free site.

I'm still not completely finished with what I want to do with it, but I'm learning and loving it so far. Here is a glance at what I have so far.

It was really simple to set up and I'm loving the check list format. There is also a calendar format where you can schedule upcoming posts.  I'm really enjoying that part of the site as well.

What do you use to organize your upcoming blog lists? Do you use paper, Google docs and Calendar (Which is what I used to do), or something else? I would love to know.

    Bloggiesta: Pinterest Mini Challenge

Super excited, Bloggiesta started yesterday!!! I didn't get to do anything yesterday seeing as I was in bed all day not feeling well, but today has started out great.  I've already completed the first mini challenge that I wanted to complete.

In this challenge we were supposed to pin our author interviews.  I have decided to make a board for all author interviews and guest posts.  I still have to finish pinning all the guest posts, but all the author interviews are complete. Click the image below to see all the pins.  I have 20 so far!!

I mainly wanted to work on this mini challenge because it was something I had always planned on doing, but never actually got around to it.  I challenge you, if you are a blogger, to do the same.

Today I'm planning on knocking some of my to do list out and complete a few more mini challenges.  I love that this bloggiesta is a full week, gives me plenty of time to get that to do list complete.
