For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
First off I want to start off by saying I love this book, secondly I want to say I want to yell at the author for this book. Mainly becuase she decieded to end it where she did. I need more of these characters and this story ASAP.
With that out of the way, I can now tell you what I really think of this book. I was so excited when I got this book on Audio and had a trip to take so I thought it would be perfect to listen to it on my trip and I was so right. The Selection is a perfect read/listen and I couldn't get enough of it. I'm really excited to see where Kiera Cass takes the next book and can't wait to read it.
I mean, what girl wouldn't want to be in America's spot in this story, yeah she is put into a terrible position, well she thinks it is at first. I mean she is Selected and has a boyfriend already. I knew that meant trouble right away and I was right. But, come on what girl in her right mind would pass up the chance to be with a prince? Even if she was in love with someone else. I'm not sure I could have made that choose and her boyfriend at the time, kind of makes it easy on her.
I want to say how much I love the characters in this story as well, which makes the book so enjoyable. They seemed so real and down to earth to me when I was reading/listening. I rooted for America the whole time and I love Maxon, he's so sweet and easy to care about as a character. He tries really hard to please the girls, but at the same time he's not so sure about himself around them, which I thought made him even more cute!
Now let's chat about Drama. This book really reminded me of the TV show The Bachelor as far as the plot goes, well mixed with a royal family instead of just some guy. The drama in this story at times was hilarious and at times I wanted to punch one of the other girls. There was some catty girls in there vying for his attention. Mix all that in with a ex-boyfriend showing up as a guard and people mad at the royal family and you would understand why I say there is major Drama in this book.
This book had great dialogue, characters, and one hell of a plot! I really enjoyed every minute I spent listening to it.
My Rating:

(This review is about the book itself, it has nothing to do about the drama that actually happened outside the book. I do not review on that kind of stuff, I give my honest opinion on the book itself.)
