The astronomical success of the historical novels of Phillipa Gregory and Christine Trent prove that readers simply can't get enough of the British royals--and now Mary Hart Perry enters the fray with an exciting, deliciously sensual novel of Queen Victoria's "wild child" daughter, the Princess Louise. The Wild Princess transports us back to Victorian England and plunges us into the intrigues of the royal court, where the impetuous Louise brazenly followed no one's rules but her own--even marrying a commoner, which no one of royal blood had done in the previous three centuries. Filled with rich period deal, The Wild Princess is an exciting, enthralling read. The Tudors have gotten the lion's share of attention in historical fiction; it's high time Queen Victoria and her family got their due

    Review: Partials by Dan Wells

    Review: Partials by Dan Wells

IN A GLANCE: Stunning plot and very incredibly written. Partials is defiantly on my list of favs for 201.

    Title: Partials
    Author: Dan Wells
    Publisher: Balzer & Bray
    Format: Hardback and Audio
    Pages: 470 pages
    ISBN #: 978-0-06-207104-0

Humanity is all but extinguished after a war with partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans—has decimated the world’s population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island. The threat of the partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to the disease in over a decade. Humanity’s time is running out.

When sixteen-year-old Kira learns of her best friend’s pregnancy, she’s determined to find a solution. Then one rash decision forces Kira to flee her community with the unlikeliest of allies. As she tries desperately to save what is left of her race, she discovers that the survival of both humans and partials rests in her attempts to answer questions of the war’s origin that she never knew to ask.

Combining the fast-paced action of The Hunger Games with the provocative themes of Battlestar Galactica, Partials is a pulse-pounding journey into a world where the very concept of what it means to be human is in question—one where our sense of humanity is both our greatest liability, and our only hope for survival.

Mia's ordinary life is disrupted in the most horrifying way possible when she is possessed by a hungry and powerful demon--and only saved by the arrival of relatives from Italy, the country her grandfather fled many decades ago. Now her cousins Emilio and Giuliano say the only way to keep her safe is for her to come back with them to Milan, to live, to learn Italian, to fall in and out of love, and to master the family trade: fighting all demons with the lore of bell, book, and candle. Milan is not what Mia expected, but it will change her forever, in this stunningly well-written novel about an American girl who, fleeing an ancient evil, finds her only salvation in her ancestral home.

Black swirling holes churning madly in the center of every corpse. This is how eighteen-year-old Chelsan Derée sees the deceased. Her ability to connect to the black spinning holes allows her to control every dead thing within a four-mile radius.

But that's the least of her problems. It's 2320 and Chelsan Derée has to survive another year of high school, which for her is pure and utter torture, mainly due to the fact that her schoolmate Jill Forester's favorite activity is making Chelsan's life a living hell. If that isn't enough, Chelsan's impossible crush on Ryan Vaughn makes her brain do somersaults on a regular basis, especially since she is positive he doesn't know she exists. And being eighteen Chelsan has to deal with the pressure of whether or not she should take a little pill called Age-pro, which cures aging, making the world eighteen forever and highly over-populated.

When Chelsan's mother, Janet, is brutally killed, along with everyone else in her trailer park, Chelsan finds out that she was the intended target. Chelsan must use her power to raise and control the dead to save herself, protect her friends and take down the man responsible for murdering her mother.

Vermont, picturesque and lovely, attracts visitors from across the country in search for the perfect picture, the perfect fall foliage or perhaps a taste of maple syrup. Stansbury is best known for the odd covered bridge that spans Stansbury Lake and goes nowhere, connecting no roads and serving no known purpose. The locals call it the Lakebridge. Very few know of its mysterious origins and fewer care to know more.

Those visiting the town perhaps take a few snapshots and leave, their curiosity quelled by an uneasy feeling that they shouldn’t think on it anymore. The tourists will eventually leave Stansbury, but its residents strangely linger, seemingly held captive by a force they barely recognize. They also do not think about the town’s mysterious artifact much except in passing, all but Gil, his father, Ben, and a few others. They know of the bridge’s dark history and understand that it is responsible for every horror that ever befell the people of Stansbury: the people who fear the bridge but will not speak of it.

The bridge makes people do things – bad things – so that it can continue to love and care for them all. Some have tried to destroy the bridge, but as long as the bridge is fed with the lives of the innocents of Stansbury it will go on – loving the people of Stansbury. Lakebridge: Spring is the first of a four book cycle revolving around Stansbury and the Lakebridge.

    Mission: Supernova Chapter 9 (Readalong)

(So sorry I haven't been around much this week...my computer got a virus in it and it hasn't been working right, but I'm back now and have a lot to post so I hope you all enjoy!!!)

*Spoiler Alert and Warning: These posts are going to contain quotes from the book and if you haven't read or aren't reading along right now, I suggest you not read any further.  If you do you are reading at your own risk.  Fair Warning, plus there is some language in this post so it's not for the youngins!!*

Lets Chat about Chapter 9 of this great book!!! All quotes below are from Chapter 9!!!

Again a lot happens in this chapter and we get some little tidbits about the light and Dominic's purpose and promise he made to Kerrigan's Grandma!

From attacks from a ghost to Kerrigan in a bathtub clothed and her tongue being covered in a paste made of flowers and water, this chapter is defiantly a exciting one.

I also really love how heroic Dominic is in this chapter, I mean he has been protective of her in the past chapters but now he is really protecting her.

Not this time.  And definitely not Kerrigan, he thought with anger and desperation surging through his veins.
    (Quote from book Ch 9)

This is a great post where I share what books I read last week and what books I'm going to read this week! So lets get started, shall we?  Sorry this is posted late, its been a crazy day today!!!

    What I Read Last Week

    Wentworth Hall by Abby Grahame

    What I'm Reading Today

    1 Concert
    2000 Miles
    3 Ex-Best Friends

Alice, Summer, and Tiernan are ex-best friends.

Back in middle school, the three girls were inseparable. They were also the number one fans of the rock band Level3.

But when the band broke up, so did their friendship. Summer ran with the popular crowd, Tiernan was a rebellious wild-child, and Alice spent high school with her nose buried in books.

Now, just as the girls are about to graduate, Level3 announces a one-time-only reunion show.

Even though the concert’s 2000 miles away, Alice buys three tickets on impulse. And as it turns out, Summer and Tiernan have their own reasons for wanting to get out of town. Good thing Alice’s graduation gift (a pea-green 1976 VW camper van known as the Pea Pod) is just the vehicle to get them there.

But on the long drive cross-country, the girls hit more than a few bumps in the road. Will their friendship get an encore or is the show really over?

Thirty-six-year-old Irene Dunphy didn't plan on dying any time soon, but that’s exactly what happens when she makes the mistake of getting behind the wheel after a night bar-hopping with friends. She finds herself stranded on earth as a ghost, where the food has no taste, the alcohol doesn’t get you drunk, and the sex...well, let’s just say “don’t bother.” To make matters worse, the only person who can see her—courtesy of a book he found in his school library—is a fourteen-year-old boy genius obsessed with the afterlife.

This sounds suspiciously like hell to Irene, so she prepares to strike out for the Great Beyond. The only problem is that, while this side has exorcism, ghost repellents, and soul devouring demons, the other side has three-headed hell hounds, final judgment, and eternal torment. If only there was a third option…

Blog Tour: Q & A with Sherri Hayes

It's time to ask this amazing author some questions about writing and her books.  Below you will find my questions for her and her live Ali Talks Live you can listen to as well! Enjoy!!!

Can you tell us something interesting about your writing process?

Probably the most interesting thing about my writing process is that I don’t really have one. I get a story idea, ponder it for a while until I have a direction, and then I start typing.

What part of the writing process is the easiest/hardest for you?

Editing. Then again, I’ve yet to meet a writer who likes the editing process. Seeing all that red and pink and blue on the screen makes me cringe.

Who is your favorite character (that you’ve written)?

That’s like asking a mother to pick which one of her children she likes best. I just can’t do it.

Blog Tour: Need by Sherri Hayes

I am so excited...Its time for another blog tour and this one I'm dying to share with you.  Today we have Need by Sherri Hayes.  I will be posting my review of this fantastic book, a Q & A with Sherri Hayes and a GIVEAWAY!!!! So sit back, relax and get ready for a great day of posts!!!

Alice tried not to get her hopes up about this mysterious graduation present-the Chia Pet they'd given her for her eighteenth birthday was still too fresh in her mind-but with all this hype, it was hard not to get a little excited. Especially if her parents remembered to consult the list of gift ideas she'd given them, typed up and organized by price. Ch 1

So that's a little tease into what I'm reading right now.  What are you reading right now? Hook me up with a little teaser below or link me to your Teaser Tuesday post!!
