Author BioCaroline Mickelson loves her family and loves to write. She also loves a good adventure, among her favorites thus far were attending graduate school in a Scottish castle, riding a camel around the Pyramids in Giza, and taking a best-in-a-lifetime road trip to Graceland. Caroline lives in the American southwest with her husband and their four children, affectionately known as The Miracles.
Thanks so much Caroline for being on my blog and for sharing your book with us. I'm so excited to have you here today and thanks for answering some questions for us.
Q: What part of the writing process is the easiest/hardest for you?
A: The first draft is difficult for me because I feel like I’m lost with only the voices in my head to guide me. The editing that follows is fun, maybe not always easy, but it’s the part I enjoy the most.
Q: Where did the idea for your book come from?
A: I wish I knew! Usually I just start hearing conversations in my head and I listen until I can discover who is speaking and what on earth is going on. When I get a handle on that I start writing down what I’m hearing.
Q: Do you follow a writing schedule, or just write whenever you get the chance?
A: I do follow a schedule. I write in the mornings from 9am until 2pm because once my kids are home from school there isn’t a quiet moment.
Q: If you could have a casual, 30-minute conversation by the fireplace with any author, living or dead, who would you choose, and what would you ask?
A: Agatha Christie. I’m in awe of her prolific career and amazing talent. I’d love to ask about her writing process and which of her characters and books were her personal favorites.
Q: If you could live someone else’s life for two weeks, whose life would you choose?
A: I wouldn’t need the full two weeks but I wouldn’t mind spending a few days living the Duchess of Cambridge’s life. Aren’t you curious what really goes on within the royal family? But I’d only want a sneak peek – I can’t imagine it’s easy to live with so many restrictions, handsome prince or not.
Q: If you could change the ending to any book that you have ever read, what book would it be?
A: Gone with the Wind. I love the book (don’t care for the movie though). I always feel cheated at the end. I’m not even sure I know what ending I’d like for it, but a proper, satisfying ending at least.
Q: Coffee or tea?
A: Tea. I lived in Scotland for a few years while attending graduate school and learned to love a good cuppa.
Q: Summer or winter?
A: I live in Arizona. It always feels like summer!
Q: Werewolves or vampires?
A: Neither – I’m partial to Fairy God Fathers J
Q: Pepsi or Coke?
A: Diet coke with a twist of lemon and plenty of ice.
Q: Dogs or cats?
A: Dogs! I especially love German Shepherds.
